Granite: A short survey

If you are thinking of remodeling your kitchen or bathroom or you are in the midst of it, you already know that having granite counter tops will increase the value of your home.

Remodeling your home is a big job but with Sterling Services, our experienced decorators can help you walk through all your decisions including which granite to install. If you haven't been out looking for granite you might not be aware of the hundreds of options you have. In addition, even if you select a color you still have a range of colors within that selection because you are dealing with a natural product. For example, below are three pictures of Uba Tuba. Granted, they are photos and they do not always translate the actual look of the granite but this is a good idea of how some of this same stone could have more gold or more green. The ranges of the greens can vary as well.

With that in mind, if you are more selective on what the granite looks like, we suggest you go pick your granite out with your decorator. There are several granite yards we like to use in the Houston area and we can help you select your piece based on your other remodel selections.

A sink adds a lot of character to your granite tops. Most prefer a stainless, undermount but below you will see some other examples.

Many people defer to the bullnose edge for their granite but there are lots of options available. Below is a great drawing of different edges. Depending if you want something modern, transitional or traditional will influence your final choice.

For a kitchen countertop there sure are a lot of decisions which need to be made before you get it installed. Remodeling your kitchen is about your overall look and you will need to constantly pull all your pieces together to make sure each choice you make will bring together a beautiful, enjoyable kitchen.

Though the headboard comes from a history of utilitarian purposes like many furniture pieces, it has now moved to a aesthetic detail used in bedrooms around the world. There are as many to choose from and can be customized any way a person wishes.

When I think of headboards sometimes my mind reflects back when wood headboards were more common in peoples homes. This is still a very lovely look especially with the decorative carvings many of them have. This is a more traditional look but depending on the finish could become very transitional.

Fabric headboards can be done in many ways. Either a more traditional style with shape and fabric (above) or more minimalist, contemporary look (see below). Add nailheads or tufted or simply upholstered with no additions. This is a great way to add color, texture or pattern to your space.

For a while, iron headboards were the rage. I remember having a daybed which had bedknobs on the four corners. I used to imagine I was going to take off like in one of my all time favorite, childhood movies, 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks'. Nowadays, I prefer the unusual and funky iron headboards like below.

There are so many possibilities you could go mad looking at them all. Even though we don't need them anymore for additional insulation from cold climates, they are still a wanted design element in many bedrooms.

I like the simplified color palette in this room.

Bright and fun for a guest room or a teenager!

Below are three chairs. One is well over $2000 and one is a fraction of that price. Can you tell which one? Probably not.

Most of us have a budget we can work with in. Sterling Services will do shopping for you and we do our best to find the best deal while maintaining the desired end look. In addition, we have a library of fabrics to choose from so if, for example, you like this chair but the fabric is wrong. We can select the fabric that works best and have it upholstered.

Spring Has Arrived

I don't know about you, but when Spring hits I am ready to do something to my house. It is a time of renewal, refreshing and updating. I open the blinds to let the beauty of the blooming nature show through. I love this time of year!

What would you like to do in your home? I would like to get my bedroom painted a happy yet peaceful green. The shades of green available are beautiful! Our color pallet is full of spring green, olive greens and sage. One shade or another can be used in every home. It is like brining nature from outside to the inside. It is a color that is always in our spectrum of colors and never goes out of style.
